Paregentan Celebration
February 15 @ 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm
This Saturday at Aginian we’re celebrating Poon Paregentan!
For all our wonderful students this weekend, uniforms are out and dress ups are in! That’s right, dress up in your favourite costume or outfit as we celebrate Poon Paregentan, the eve of the Great Lent. If you haven’t got a costume, no problems – it’s also free dress so you can simply dress in your favourite colours.
A hot dog 🌭and a drink will be provided to all students and special prizes awarded for our best dressed students!
What is Poon Paregentan? It is the last Sunday before Great Lent, with the word ‘Paregentan’ being composed of two words; ‘Paree-Gentanootioun’ (good living, rejoicing). ‘Poon’ means ‘The Main’, and points to the fact that the fasting period following Paregentan is longer than weekly Lents of other feasts, and it is tied to the main event of Christendom, the resurrection of our Lord.
During Paregentan, we commemorate the human bliss which Adam and Eve enjoyed in the Garden of Eden. It also symbolises the heavenly right, according to which, mankind could eat all types of fruit, except the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Paregentan is the manifestation of the virtues of the soul, through which people can transform mourning to joy, and torment to peace.
We look forward to seeing our wonderful students this Saturday!
