years 1975-1985.

After many years as a tenant in various state government schools, the Aginian School with generous donations by the Melbourne-Armenian community, The Gaidzkar Family, Gulbenkian Foundation and Alex Manougian Foundation constructed its own school building on St Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church grounds at 2-4 Norfolk Road, Surrey Hills. The building was consecrated in October 1985 by His Grace, the late Bishop Aghan Baliozian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Australia and New Zealand.

On 2nd of December 2002, the Governor His Excellency John Landy AC, MBE presented the Aginian Armenian School with a “Victorian Awards in Excellence in Multicultural Affairs” award for the services the school provides to the Armenian Community.

Currently, the school has classes from Kinder to Year 12 and offers VCE LOTE Units 1- 4 to students who wish to gain more knowledge in the language and gain extra ATAR Scores in their VCE exams. The classes are held on Saturdays, between 2.00-5.30pm. Lesson Plans are divided into 4 Terms and students receive Report cards mid Semester and at the end of the school year. The school curriculum is based on the Victorian Languages Curriculum F-10.

Aginian Armenian School is accredited by the Department of Education and Training (DET) every 3 years. It is also a member of the Community Languages Victoria.

Under the leadership of its current Principal, Mrs Ilda Deryan and a dedicated school council, Aginian School teachers (all trained in language teaching) strive to teach the Armenian language, history and culture to the young generation of Armenian students and to keep our identity alive.
